Stationary Locomotive Sanding

A pneumatic truck filled sand storage silo provides for both economy of purchase and the storage of dry sand.  A sand transporter with sanding hose to sand box is located beneath the silo. This provides for a clean, completely closed conveying system from storge to locomotive sand box.

After the bin is loaded, the locomotive sanding system then becomes automatic upon demand.  The transporter refills itself by gravity. Flow from transporter to rail vehicle sandbox is initiated by pneumatic remote control at the sand box end of the hose. Appropriate sand nozzles or sanding wands can be provided as required by the sand port configuration and location.

Expanded Systems
For exceptionally busy yards expanded systems may be required.  The illustration shows a system whereby two locomotives may be sanded at the same time.  A drop pattern will permit access to all sandboxes.  A central filling system from a bulk sand bin, will fill sand dispensing units automatically.  Due to space limitations, sand dispensing drums are elevated.  Should clearance space be available, the same type of system can be installed at ground level
